INTRODUCTION

The Acer Aspire One AO722 is 1″ thin and weights just around 3 pounds. Very lightweight to carry for those in school or for those that travel. A full charge with this netbook can last up around 7+ hours depending on how you use it. But 7 hours is about average which is still great! It’s keyboard is a full size standard size which is allows better accurate typing. The TouchPad is easy to use, great for scrolling and zoom.

The AO722 contains a multicard reader that allows you to easily download images and movies you recorded from your digital camera plus 3 USB ports. 2.0 speed on these USB ports. Wireless internet for easy connecting to the internet anywhere. Also a 10/100 Ethernet LAN connection for those that don’t have wireless and need online via a wire (like me). Runs great for those on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The AO722 also has a built-in 0.3 megapixel webcam and microphone for Skyping or webcaming with friends.
The Acer Aspire One AO722-0473, just released this past October 2011 is a new version and upgrade from it’s previous BZ454 model of last year. Both models look similar but there are a few differences between the two

1. The newer model is a dual core processor vs a single processor
2. The newer model contains 2Gigs of Ram installed and is upgradeable to 4GB of RAM! (which will really deliver more power and speed as many netbooks can only be maxed out to 2GB)
3. And finally the newer model contains a 320GB hard drive vs a 250GB hard drive..

Pre-installed with Windows 7 Home ( Not Windows 7 Starter) – Why is this good? Window 7 Starter offer a few features such as a few security features like encryption and only allowing you to run three programs at a time. Yes, starter sucks. Many netbooks have installed Windows 7 Starter, fortunately this model doesn’t which is a good thing!

GENERAL SPECS

OK let’s begin! I’m going to jump right in with this review and give you as much information you need to know if this netbook is right for you. The good the bad, let’s begin….

DUAL CORE PROCESSOR

I’m going to start with the processor on this machine and go from there with the rest of the features this netbook offers. The Acer Aspire One AO722 is loaded with a dual-core processor (AMD C60 /64-Bit dual core & 1MB of cache) vs a single processor like many other netbook models. Have 2 processors compared to 1 means a faster machine when loading up programs, using programs, faster booting up, better and faster streaming audio and especially movies.

Ever watch YouTube videos or are you into streaming movies online from Netflix? You shouldn’t have any problems playing YouTube, Hulu, Netflix at a screen resolution of 1366×768. How about video chatting with friends using Skype? If you’ve used a slow computer and done anything with video, whether watching, streaming or skyping you know how bad it is. Slow, choppy, skipping…Very annoying!

A dual processor will help make it easier to stream video smoother and fast like watching TV without the video being choppy and slow.

2GB of RAM – Upgradeable to 4GB!

WOW-Hardly seen today in netbooks but the Acer Aspire One AO722 comes preloaded with 2GB of RAM and is upgradable to 4GB of RAM. Many netbooks only contain 1GB and allow 2GB max of RAM. I would recommend upgrading to a 4GB chip which shouldn’t cost more than $25 bucks.

Definitely worth it. Double the power with RAM in this netbook is great. Not only allowing your netbook to run faster but more RAM also allows better battery life which many don’t know because this reduces disk thrashing. Disk thrashing is when your computer is being overworked due to lack of memory.

After researching on Acer’s website on the type of RAM they suggest when adding more memory I found out they suggest PC3 8500RAM for those that wish to add more.

INSTALLING MORE RAM

Installing more RAM in the Acer netbook can be done by first powering off your netbook and unscrewing 1 screw on the backside underneath the laptop shown below. After installing the RAM chips, place the back plastic covering back on, screw the screw back in and power on the system. The system will automatically recognize the new chips installed.

WHAT ABOUT THE BATTERY LIFE?

Very important for any portable device to have great battery life. Battery life in netbooks I’m noticing are getting better and better. The Acer Aspire One AO722 proves it. Many owners of this model claim they get around 7 good hours of battery life with decent usage of the netbook such using WI-Fi, launching applications, download, installing, etc.

The battery on this model is a 6 cell battery which is why battery life is great. Great battery life allows you to be more portable without having to worry about being near a plug for power. Great for travelers, students taking notes in class or for business.

GREAT SCREEN SIZE FOR A NETBOOK

Not to be big yet not to small. This model is a 11.6″ screen size and it’s screen resolution looks sharp. The screen is a 16:9 and is LED backlit.

It’s overall speed is fast for working in programs such as Word or Excel because of it’s dual processors and RAM. No to many complains about this system other than low speakers and a glossy outer casing which attracts fingerprints. The netbook is perfect for those who wish to run basic application for school or work such as Microsoft Excel, word , skype, browsing the internet and checking email. Of course using it for intense power-needing programs like graphics or video editing won’t due. Remember netbooks are for those needing to get simple tasks done as I’ve mentioned above.

- 1GB of DDR2 RAM Installed (2GB max) – However it’s worth upgrading to a 2GB because it’ll run faster and smoother.

- 250Gigabit Hard Drive – A huge drive for tons of storage ( music, movies, files for work or school)

- 10.1 Diagonal Widescreen Display at 1024 x 600 Screen resolution

- Windows 7 Starter Installed

- 8 Hour Battery Life – Perfect for someone using it for school, work or travel that is away from power. The company also fully charges the battery at 100% when shipped out which is cool. Normally companies half charge or even less the battery telling you to fully charge it before running. How hard is that to do when you get a new toy and they tell you charge it up before you start to play with it?

- Weights about 2.9 pounds – It’s great for school because students can easily carry it around in their backpack or purse. It’s as light as a standard book and compared to a normal laptop weight, it feels extremely light.

- Wireless Capable – Connect to the internet fast when around a wi-fi or hotspot signal such as at school or starbucks! Just on the internet fast if you need to check something such as your email. This includes wireless printing as those are becoming popular.

-3 USB Ports – 3 USB ports are good . I something have to use 1 for a mouse, another for a USB flash drive and the 3rd for an external drive so having less than 3 ports would mean I’d have to remove one of my apparatus.

-VGA Video Output – This allows your to connect your netbook to another monitor or your own TV. Why would you want to? For larger viewing screen size.

-SD Memory Card Reader – Capable of reading any small SD card such as an SDHC, SDXC or any other multimedia card. These are the types of cards that are normally found in digital cameras. Take them out of your camera and connect them from a slot on the netbook allowing you to download them on your netbook.

I found the  SD slot is placed right under the mousepad to be a great place for it. Also the mousepad features a 1-finger up and down scrolling features.

- Webcam – Great for using Skype (software that allows your to webcam and call people around the world free) or webcaming with friends or family. Even capable of taking photos and video.

The features mentioned above are all standard in today’s netbook computers. Not all but some. So will you notice some of these features when comparing it to another system. Check out Amazon

What’s Also Included?

Also included with your nb505 Toshiba netbook is an AC charger, lithium-ion battery, instruction manual. Installed as a trial 30 day version is Nortons Internet Security 2011 which I fully recommend you purchase after the trial. I just recently purchased it after my computer got infested with spyware and malware viruses. Since installing Norton’s, never had an issue.

Also the laptop is backed up by a 1 year hardware warranty. What this means is that if there is any issue with the hardware they’ll replace your system free.

Full Size Keyboard

What makes this netbook so great is it’s full sized keyboard! Not something you see on netbooks because of their size (being smaller). A full size keyboard is great as the keys aren’t so small and you don’t feel so squished with your hands and fingers when typing especially those with big hands.

Also the up, down, right/left, PGUP, PGDN, HOME and END are included which make it even better for those using programs such as Excel which makes it really comfortable. In many netbook keyboards because of their small size you would have to press an additional FN key to be able to scroll up or down, left or right. With this netbook, your free of having to use that.

You’ll Feel Safe Holding – Non Slippery Case

It’s got a great rubbery casing which make it easy to grip. Doesn’t feel slippery to the touch. It’s outside is a great rubberized texture which is great for gripping and because of that it doesn’t show fingerprints as with glossy casings do.

Mono Speaker Not Stereo

The Toshiba NB505 only contains a mono speaker and not stereo speakers which I wish it had.

If your looking for a netbook to handle basic task such as:

- Checking email

- Going on the internet

- Typing reports for school

- Traveling for work or always on the road

- Using basic word-processing application such as Word and Excel

- Just need an extra small netbook to carry around for taking notes/work or school

When I start looking for a new computer, it’s always challenging to figure out what all of the features actually mean to me. Sometimes the technical jargon goes right over my head, and I find myself wondering what exactly I need to know to choose the right one. There are really four main points to address when buying a computer:

- the screen display
- the battery life
- the capabilities
and the interesting features.

Technology advances have made computers even more light and compact than they used to be. All you have to do is purchase an ASUS Eee PC netbook to get an inexpensive, reliable piece of equipment that will give you an array of different computing capabilities and access to the Internet.

This type of computer is great for anyone on a budget, but specifically for college-aged students that need a small, portable device to take with them to classes or study sessions off campus. It is also ideal for anyone who is on the go and needs a convenient computer to take on trips or to the office.

Screen Display

The ASUS Eee PC 1215N I have has a screen with High-Definition visuals, and let me just say, it is the best picture quality I have ever seen on a computer.

I can watch movies, sports, TV shows, and the picture quality is outstanding. If you can find a computer with an HD display, it will be the best screen you’ve ever had. With the EEE PC 1215N, you can hook your computer directly up to an HDTV to experience any video or picture on your computer in full-size on your TV screen.

Another great feature of the 1215N is that the screen is backlit with an LED light, brightening and enhancing the colors on the screen. This makes viewing graphics, illustrations, and photos a captivating experience.

Most netbooks have a 9-inch screen, but the EEE PC 1215N has a 12.1-inch screen. That is definitely an added benefit to this netbook. In addition to the screen size and quality, the Eee PC 1215N is equipped with NVIDIA Optimus Technology defining the images in crystal clear, true-to-life clarity.

The screen display is one of the most important elements to me when I’m purchasing a computer. I love being able to see in perfect clarity with the Eee PC 1215N. For a compact netbook, the screen capabilities make this product a lot better than some of the other netbooks I have seen.

Battery Life

Battery life is really important when you’re using a computer to visit clients or to study with friends. The 1215N’s battery life has been upgraded to give users a full 6 hours of battery power on a single charge. This is much more battery life than other netbooks that have similar capabilities and cost the same amount.

So if you are going on a trip or need a day to decompress with your work in the park, you can take this computer with you and know that fully charged you have up to six hours of usage on it. That is a great thing for a netbook so small and compact. The ASUS EEE PC 1215N has been so efficiently designed and well engineered that it makes buying one of these computers truly a pleasure.

So what are some other benefits to extended battery life? Well, I find that I can get a lot more done if I have the freedom to move around and not have to worry that my battery will die in less than two hours. This also gives me peace of mind when I need to complete a project or show something to a client, this netbook will not disappoint me. It will be charged and ready to give me what I need.

Capabilities

This part of my review will get a little bit more technical since we will be discussing ram, memory, and web storage capabilities. This computer has a lot of storage capabilities with a total of 750GB Hybrid Storage. 500 GB of this storage is used for web-based transfers that allow you to store and save items to the Internet. This is great if you need to share pictures or videos with friends or family.

The 250 GB hard drive is plenty of space for all of the documents and files that I need to save on my machine. The Atom D525 dual-core processor offers everything I would have wanted in a computer, so it is nice to get it in such a compact, lightweight netbook. The NVIDIA ion graphics are integrated smoothly with Intel’s energy efficient embedded graphics. The computer alternates between these two to ensure top performance and maximum battery life simultaneously.

On top of these features, the ASUS Eee PC 1215N is fully equipped for WIFI Internet access. This means that whether on the go or in the comfort of your own home, you can surf the web; connect with friends, family, or coworkers; and explore web-based applications all on a convenient netbook. This netbook also has an integrated webcam to give users the capability to Skype with friends or family or even a client or schoolmate

Cool Features

This product has a wide variety of interesting features that make it superior to other netbooks of the same price. The ASUS Eee PC 1215N has a microphone, High Definition stereo speakers, and High Definition audio all built in. The webcam is another perk to buying this computer because it comes already installed on the screen.

This makes it easy to connect and communicate with friends and family over long distances or to conference call a client or coworker. The screen optics are top of the line which is another added benefit since the screen allows High Definition graphics to be seen in precise clarity and an LED backlit display.

The complimentary 500 GB of webstorage is another added benefit to this device. You can backup and view your files and documents conveniently from the Internet, and this makes for easy file sharing. This netbook weighs 3.2 pounds so it is lightweight and compact.

The cover is scratch resistant and this type of computer fits perfectly into a backpack, briefcase, or protective cover. The keyboard is a good size, and the mouse allows you to zoom in and out with a touch of your fingers (opening and closing them on the mousepad).

The keyboard is more rigid than its 1201N predecessor. A few other features have been upgraded from the former model of this netbook. The battery life has been extended by almost double, and the outer casing is made of a matte finish that is much less likely to attract fingerprints than the first.

Another great feature of this netbook is that it comes with the Windows 7 Home Premium already installed. You don’t have to upgrade your operating system, and this is a desirable advantage compared with some of the other netbooks.

There are only a few drawbacks to the upgraded version of this netbook, and that is the bloatware that has been pre-installed on the computer. These are relatively easy to remove, but it is still a tedious process. There are also currently no USB 3.0 capabilities. For my own purposes, I don’t need a USB 3.0 jack and by the time I do, I’m sure that ASUS will have come out with an updated version of this netbook that I will purchase.

Convenience and Versatility

The ASUS EEE PC 1215N offers a versatile range of capabilities from unlimited Internet access with built in WIFI connectivity to NVIDIA Ion graphics. This computer has been a successful upgrade from its predecessor, and I enjoy utilizing all of the improvements to the interface and design of the machine.

The size of the computer is one of my favorite things about it. With a sleek, matte finish, a 12.1-inch screen, and a full-sized keyboard, this netbook has exceeded my expectations for a smaller, lighter, more compact version of a laptop. All in all I couldn’t be more pleased with the way my Eee PC 1215N works for me. It gives me exactly what I need in terms of capabilities, design, and battery life.

And the price is excellent. For less than $500, I have everything I need for my work and my leisure time. I can’t emphasize the HD screen display enough either. The graphics on this netbook are fantastic, and I enjoy watching all of my videos and viewing my photos on this computer.

I can also plug into my HDTV at home to watch any of my favorite shows or to see my favorite pictures. The embedded Intel graphic display interchanges seamlessly with the NVIDIA Ion graphics.

Taking this netbook to the park or the coffee shop is a breeze now with the extended battery life. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend this product to others.

The Toshiba Mini NB305 offers all the exciting features of a full-sized laptop with the portability and convenient body styling of a netbook. This netbook has been upgraded and revamped to include a number of new great features and a solid, sleek design that gives the user all of the options needed to really enjoy the experience of owning a netbook.

I bought mine just a few weeks ago, and I am very pleased with the way it operates. The ergonomic design is very easy to take on trips or for everyday work. I use this netbook everywhere. There are a lot of features that deserve to be recognized, but one of the most exceptional upgrades is the battery life.

This battery lasts almost close to 11 hours on a single charge allowing me to take it to and from work or out for a day without needing to worry that the battery will need to be charged. That is my favorite feature. Most of the netbooks and laptops I have owned can barely hold their charge for a couple of hours, much less all day long. Toshiba model claims an 11 hour batter life!

Wow…Could it be true?

With a slightly larger battery (a 6 cell battery) the claims are somewhat true. If your a user of word processing battery life as they claim is pretty close to what they state running at around 9 hours. Watching videos that require a little more power, something as that would bring it’s life down to around 6 hours. Still not bad at all.

I had been looking for a reliable, compact piece of equipment to help me manage my daily activities for some time. I poured over different qualities and specifications only to feel like I really didn’t know anything about the machine I was going to get. I finally decided on the Toshiba Mini NB305 after careful consideration weighing the capabilities, the battery life, and the other features, and I am so glad that I bought this product instead of some of the other slim netbooks that offer similar features.

Other than the battery life, I need to rave about a few other important attributes of this netbook. The design, the features, and the processor capabilities are all excellent, and I will discuss in detail my experience with them.

Super Sleek, Stylish Design Will Have Your Friends Talking About It!

The design of this computer is sleek and professional with a feather light feel that is great for anyone who needs a computer for travel, meeting with clients, or study sessions off campus. I can’t emphasize enough how well this machine is designed.

The keypad is solid and easy to use, and the touchpad has been integrated with multi-touch capabilities. The keyboard is full-size with all 85 keys found on a laptop or desktop computer. This makes surfing the web, researching, and general computing much easier than other versions of a similar product.

The screen display is revolutionary. This netbook is equipped with a 10.1 inch display that allows for easy viewing of graphics and videos. The capabilities have been extended to allow for brighter, high quality pictures that pop on the screen. The widescreen on this netbook presents clarity in images and intensity of colors for an optimal web surfing experience.

One of the many features I like on this computer is the black onyx coloring because it gives it a professional, smooth look. The design of this computer makes it a perfect size to carry in a purse, backpack, or briefcase, and it leaves little room for clutter in an office or home. I find that I can take this computer anywhere, even in the most cramped spaces on an airplane, and still use it comfortably.

The computer weighs less than 3 pounds so it is light and easy to manage when I have to take it on the go. The Toshiba Mini NB305 is great for any college student that needs a lightweight, compact computer to take to classes, on study sessions, or to a friend’s dorm room. Killer Battery Life!

The battery life is probably my favorite feature of this computer. Most netbooks come equipped with a few hours of battery charge, but this computer can go almost a full twelve hours on a single charge. That is exceptional for a machine that is so small and compact.

The battery has been integrated seamlessly into the design so it is hard to even tell that the battery is so powerful based on the size and weight of it. The ergonomic design offers a portable device that is convenient, easy to manage, and revolutionary. The predecessor to this netbook had a bulky battery attachment, but the new one has been completely revamped to include a sleek, portable body styling.

This netbook is truly a gift that I would share with any of my friends and family. For the cost of this product, it simply can’t be outclassed.

It’s Prime Features That Helps It Run Like A Well Oiled Machine…

The performance on this computer is amazing. The processor fits well in this netbook, and the upgrade is really evident. The Toshiba Mini NB305 operates off of a Windows 7 Operating System that works well on the computer for basic computing and Internet browsing. If you need to, you can upgrade to the Windows 7 Home Premium version.

Other software comes included on the netbook: Microsoft Works 9, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Office Live Essentials, and Norton Internet Security 2010. The Intel Atom N450 Processor functions well and operates quickly and efficiently.

This netbook features 1 GB of ram memory, and that is more than enough for me. I use the computer for Internet exploring, document creation, and for loading and storing my pictures so this amount of memory is sufficient for me to hold all of the information I need.

The Toshiba Mini NB305 can also be upgraded to 2 GB of ram, but I have not had to do this yet. The hard drive contains 160 GB, and this is a good amount of space for such a small machine.

The graphics media accelerator produces clear, bright images and is also energy efficient so I can view my own documents or browse the Internet and preserve maximum energy storage at the same time. That’s a really great feature of this product in my opinion. I haven’t experienced delays when trying to live stream audio or video content. For a netbook so small and compact, it is pretty amazing the speed and capabilities of the processor.

This computer is also integrated with WIFI capabilities that make my internet browsing faster.

I enjoy being able to use the WIFI wherever I go that has a connection. I can take my computer to the coffee shop or to a boardroom meeting and always maintain my connection.

This netbook also comes with 3 USB ports so that I can connect multiple devices at once. Another thing I like about this computer is that it comes with a Health Monitor already installed. This can keep tabs on how my computer is functioning, and if there are any problems with the system, it will alert me.

All in all I have been very satisfied with my purchase of the Toshiba Mini N305 because of its design, battery life, and other charming features. I do enjoy the keyboard. It seems more like a normally designed keyboard than other similar products I have seen.

The trackpad allows me to browse the Internet easily and to look at documents the same way I do with my Mac. As I said before, the design is genuinely professional and appealing. I like that the version I have with the textured finish is resistant to finger prints and markings. It is easy for me to keep clean, too, and that is a big plus for me. Carrying this netbook is a breeze because it is so light and manageable weighing in at only 2.6 lbs.

That’s right.. Only 2.6 pounds! Your Shoulders and Arms Will Thank You….

The only thing I can find that I think could be improved upon on the computer is the speaker quality. The speakers make it really hard to hear if you’re playing a movie or watching a video clip, but I just usually use my earplugs to listen to the audio. This helps, but I do wish the speakers were a little better.

I have been stunned by how light this netbook is and how well it travels. The hard drive has a built in protection device that helps to keep data intact if the machine is jostled or carried in a backpack. The unique sleep mode is really well designed too. It wakes within seconds and is ready to use. There are so many great things about this netbook that I have a hard time using my mainframe desktop computer anymore.

I enjoy having the netbook right on my lap for Internet exploring, and with the widescreen display, I can set it on a counter or on my bed to watch a movie or one of my favorite TV shows. I absolutely love this product, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is on the fence about buying a netbook. This device is reliable and performs really well. I enjoy using it everyday, and it travels so well that I take it just about everywhere with me.

With the WIFI connectivity, I can connect with my friends and family no matter where I am, and that is exactly why I needed such a compact netbook. Hopefully you will try one too so you will see all of the great features firsthand.

Need portability and something super light to carry around. Then get it.  The battery is super great.  Forget the charger, leave it at home….
