Awesome Netbook, Stylish with Great Battery Life!
I have always liked Royal blue and when I fell in love with Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU17-BU 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer it did not come as a surprise.
But color alone is not the only feature which is attractive in this netbook. It is snappy and fast, light and portable, connects to the net in seconds and has a fantastic battery life.
Let me start from the beginning.
As the name suggests the netbook purrs on Intel Atom N280 at 1.66 Giga Hertz clock, 512 KB L2 cache and 667 MHZ FSB speed. Use Intel Atom processor is understandable because of its ability to generate low heat and is energy efficient. At the same time these processors are not meant for intensive computations which mean you cannot execute complex tasks with netbooks. The way I look at it, it is all about winning some and losing some.
Why then choose a netbook, especially Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU17-BU?
It weighs 2.81 lbs with the battery, making it one of the sleekest netbook in the market and probably weighing just a bit more than two Big Macs. If you have experience lugging a laptop around, you will know what it means to carry a nifty piece of technology which is less on beef and more on power. With a printed battery life of 10.5 hours (don’t know how they can be so precise) you can use it through the day without desperately searching for a wall outlet. In practice, the battery life is anywhere between eight to ten hours depending on the brightness settings and selection of energy saving mode. With time battery life deteriorates and your netbook will black out faster. But that’s life for you.
The 10.1-inch display, LED-Backlit Widescreen LCD using Color-Shine/Glossy Screen Technology, is good enough for most of us, unless you plan to use it in bright sunshine when you might find the glare a bit annoying. I found the full-size keyboard comfortable to use. Considering that I am a bit ham handed with massive set of fingers ( probably used by my ancestors for tearing raw meat with bare hands), the keyboard is likely to fit everyone. I also found the multi-touch trackpad nice and snug for navigating the world wide web.
But all these features are passé . What impressed me most were the wireless features. After all netbooks are for people on the go. For me hot spots mean more than finding the opposite sex. The eee 1005ha finds the right hot spots and efficiently plugs you in with the outside world with built-in 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Windows 7 for that ultimate blissful experience.
Additionally you have the option to sync with other devices with the integrated Bluetooth V2. Not satisfied with these options? A spring-loaded Plug-and-Play flash card slot (MMC/SD/SDHC) ensures that you can share your glory and triumphs with friends and family with videos and audios and pictures of you at work. It has a built-in 0.3 megapixel webcam and a microphone. What more do you want?
Let’s move on to more additional specifications. Got to cover these sometime. The hard disk is 250 GB which means you can store all your video downloads and stuff to your hearts content. I for one have a 250 GB hard disk which I have been using for two years and have lot of room to spare. Mind you I have stashed lots of movie DVDs made by that bald head – Woody Allen. I like him anyway. You are free to store anything you like and still you will have room to spare. Additionally Asus is providing free 500 GB space on their cloud for one year. Don’t really know what they expect us to keep in their online storehouse. But there it is- the space is available and you can move in anytime.
It has one GB DDR 2 RAM expandable to 2 GB.
For the uninitiated more RAM means more speed. As far as my experience goes, one GB is a GB too many. If you still want to pamper yourself you can upgrade to two GB.
The netbook comes with Genuine Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system which according to me is a great system to work with. I should remind readers that netbooks are not meant for intensive computing work. It is primarily a travel companion which must be capable of handling routine everyday tasks and keep you connected with the outside world. If you are planning to cut some professional videos, with you as the lead singer, you might as well forget it. A netbook cannot make you a superstar. You need something like a workstation in addition to talent.
I have been using PCs, laptops, workstations and lots of gadgets which work on software. The nastiest thing I have discovered is that operating systems are bound to get corrupted sometime or other. A virus attack gives me the geebees because I have to try and locate the recovery CDs which is an impossible task. I seem to have the knack of losing things when I most need them. Finding a recovery button which will restore the factory settings on my netbook automatically is a sort of divine intervention. The Eee PC 1005HA has a built-in recovery program that brings your netbook back to life by simply pressing F9 three times. This only goes to show that god exists.
Last but not the least. It has a 30-Day Flawless Display Guarantee.
Defective bright dots are a common problem with laptop monitors. If the problem is reported within 30 days of purchase, ASUS guarantees replacement of the panel free of cost. It also carries one year global and six month battery warranty. I have not yet had the pleasure of testing the true validity of this claim and I hope none of you have to either. I consider these warranties as a kind of giving a sense psychological security.
