“Superb Netbook — Fast & Effective!” – The Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BL 10.1-Inch Royal Blue Netbook – 11 Hours of Battery Life Review
Having tried most of the netbooks and reviewed them firsthand, I decided to change my tactics a bit. Instead of testing Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BL, first I reviewed the reviews of users.
To my surprise I discovered that while one user reported great performance another was bitter about the affair.
No doubt one man’s food is another man’s poison.
Let us see some reviews:
Reg from Columbia, MD says “Wow…this is my first Netbook. I’m very impressed and even more so that I got a Toshiba. My wife has one and I got this now. A really nice machine.” Obviously Reg is overwhelmed.
Bunny, Phoenix, AZ says “I bought this little laptop thinking it would be a great little one to have around the house. I am very disappointed. It is slow. It is almost useless to have a very long battery life because it is so slow when it is not plugged in that is not worth using. The keyboard is sticky and does not work well.” Well, I always thought that guys from Phoenix are a bit too funny.
Apart from the humor, what I notice is that people want to use a Netbook like a workstation and when it doesn’t perform like one, they get all roiled up.
Wake up guys, let the donkey do its job while a racehorse does the running…. If you buy a Limo and want to use it like a heavy duty truck, you are bound to get disappointed.

Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BL has a six cell battery pack designed to run for eleven hours. Even if it runs for eight I 
would take it anytime. What you must remember is that a Netbook is meant for travel, not for doing complex simulation work. Now here is a review which is more realistic.
It runs on a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 processor (512 KB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB). This is pretty much the standard with all Netbooks. The trick is to get other peripherals and hardware to work smoothly to give that ultimate experience we are all looking for.
I am glad to say that NB305 has an optimal design and probably best in class. It is ergonomic, sleek looking, slim, portable and a great fashion statement. Costs a bit more than others with similar specifications but this comes with a 250 GB hard disk and six cell battery pack which is designed to run for eleven hours – way beyond any other Netbook.
Did I tell you that I am a fan of Jim Hendrix?
Well, I am and carry a whole lot of his video and audio on this hard disk and guess what? All my stuff does not occupy even half of the storage capacity. And eleven hours is a luxury for a Netbook let me assure you. And everything weighs as little as 2.8 pounds or thereabout – sure carries a lot of punch in that small packet.
The glossy LED monitor is not so glossy because it uses the latest technology. Forget LCD screens which used to hog electricity like a hungry lion. LCD is an energy conscious panther. The resolution of 1024 x 600 could have been bettered.
There are some complaints regarding the quality of speakers. I would recommend using a headphone which is what I do anyway. The Webcam, microphone and speakers are all mounted on the bezel which is great.
I forget to mention the one GB RAM. I tried to upgrade it to 2 GB (just for the heck of it) and the whole process went smoothly without a hitch. Whenever you feel like making your wallet a bit lighter you can go for an upgrade.
Here is one feature which is a deal clincher. Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BL has three USB ports with one Sleep and Charge port. This is great news for guys on the move. You can charge your mobile or music player even when the Netbook is switched off. Now you don’t have to search frantically for a wall unit because your girlfriend is waiting for your call and the mobile has gone dead on you and requires resuscitation.
This happens all the time let me tell you – another of Murphy’s laws: All electronic gadgets go dead when you most need them. Girlfriends obviously don’t know about Murphy and don’t care. I realized this the hard way when my previous girlfriend left me.
The Toshiba nb305 netbook comes with Windows 7 starter with a one button recovery feature. I don’t want to flog this topic because every other review talks about Windows 7 starter. In addition this Netbook has several free tools thrown in including security software.
Toshiba nb 305 netbook has excellent connectivity and has the latest wireless technology in the form of Wireless-N Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g/n) giving greater speed and longer range. This is a critical aspect which must be checked and this Netbook comes up tops. The downloads are lightning fast and web browsing is a delight making it a favorite with travelers.
Overall, Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BL is an ideal Netbook for people on the move.
Its long, very long battery life means you can take it for a spin in the morning and not bother about recharging till you go to bed. It is lightweight and probably has the best weight to size ratio among all Netbooks. The processor is good and perfectly matched with the motherboard giving optimum performance.
The price is a bit steep compared to other Netbooks but I suppose it is worth it because of its sleek looks and style. Remember that you won’t be buying another Netbook for a couple of years after this purchase.
The downside is poor speaker output which can be compensated by an external head phone. Nothing to serious about that. The sleep and charge port, though not unique is still a boon and can save your life someday.
Toshiba Mini NB305 doesn’t have Modem or Bluetooth connectivity. I for one consider both of them redundant. It has 10/100 Ethernet LAN port which is a plus though not essential.
